Everyone is talking about these things called virtual offices. You are starting to see commercials on television about them. What the heck is a virtual office? I am a client of a company that provides virtual office services. Let me explain how they work so you can get a sense of whether or not they might be appropriate for you.
There are a number of commercial real estate developers across the United States and the rest of the globe who are looking for new ways to maximize their usage of premium office space. One way they are doing that is by offering these virtual office services. A virtual office is an office just like you would see at any business. What makes this office different is that you only use it for certain functions or only use it part time.
There are a lot of us professionals and consultants out there who run our own tiny little micro-businesses. We are one person businesses that want all of the amenities that premium office space provides. The problem is that we are often out of the office because we work in the field a lot. Because we are one person businesses, it is not cost effective for us to hire staff to babysit an office during regular business hours. That is where this virtual office product comes in.
With a virtual office, you group together with a bunch of other micro-businesses like yours and share the services of a premium office space. By sharing receptionists, mail handlers and general office staff these small business people can reduce their overhead immensely. This allows a one person business to flourish on the revenue generated by just this one person. A lot of these businesses simply could not exist if they had to have a full time assistant. They simply aren’t profitable enough to do so.
Instead, these businesses all share some common office space that they only use when meeting with clients or vendors. Otherwise, they work out of the comfort of their home. The virtual office takes care of whatever the business person wants them to take care of. So, you could have them answer your telephone when you are out of the office. You just need to forward your calls to them. They answer the phone professionally just as if they were your full time employee. The office collects your mail for you. You have the choice of driving over to pick it up or having them mail it to you once a week.
When you need to setup an appointment with a client, you call the office and have them arrange a room for you. Typically, you would get to pick from either using a conference room or else a nice private corner office. The client gets the impression that you run an extremely well organized business. It is great for your image.
Most of these offices have all of the amenities that you would expect to find in a modern corporate environment. They have things like high speed internet, wireless internet, projectors, high tech phone services and everything you would need to conduct an international teleconference if you wanted to.
These businesses really try to help you succeed and grow. They want your company to grow so you can become a full time tenant of their modern office space. If you check around, you will probably find that there is a local virtual office center in your area. They are perfect part time office solutions for any small business person who wants the prestige of high end office space, but can’t afford to have it full time just yet.
